After years of bushy brows on runways, British model Cara Delevingne has finally made the trend mainstream and women everywhere are tossing out their tweezers and cancelling waxing appointments in pursuit of full, ‘80s-style Brooke Shields eyebrows. 22-year-old Delevingne is a socialite, model and paparazzi magnet who’s become almost as famous as popular tabloid targets like the Kardashians and Olsen sisters — all of whom also have enviable eyebrows.

How far are women going to get the look? Some are choosing to go under the knife. Yes, eyebrow transplants are now a thing — and they’re popular. Another not-so-extreme option is eyebrow extensions, where, like eyelash extensions, individual hairs are glued onto existing brow hairs for a fuller look. Whereas the cost of transplants starts around $1,000 and can reach upwards of $5,000, extensions cost around $100 and last two to three weeks.

But neither surgery nor medical-grade glue are usually necessary for fuller-looking eyebrows, says Natalie Gee, co-owner of Gee Beauty, with locations in Toronto and Florida. Gee shared five great ways to get the look that are a little less extreme.

1. Give your brows time to grow

Be patient, advises Gee.“When we see someone who has over-plucked, we send them home and tell them to come back in a month to six weeks,” she says. Even those who have been plucking for years and fear that their brows are beyond repair will be surprised at the growth they’ll see. Once you’ve reached your messy brow breaking point, Gee suggests returning to your brow expert who can then help with shaping and offering at-home styling tips.

2. Use a brow growth serum

Gee Beauty carries GrandeBrow, a growth-promoting serum that promises thicker, fuller-looking brows in six to eight weeks. Gee recommends using the serum during your month-long tweezer break to help regenerate those tiny hairs.

3. Tint for a fuller look

“Tinting is an amazing way to enhance the shape and shade of your brows,” says Gee. Tinting is achieved by applying a semi-permanent dye to the brows. It won’t drastically change the colour of your eyebrows, but it will make the colour look richer while making your brows look fuller. But don’t try it at home, Gee says that this is a procedure best left to the professionals.

4. Use a brow pencil

Gee swears by Gee Beauty’s own Brow Blender pencil, available at Gee Beauty locations. “It shades like an eyeshadow but in a pencil,” says Gee, adding that it’s “incredibly soft and not waxy.” She recommends going to an expert for a lesson on how to fill in your brow for the fullest and most natural effect.

5. Try a brow gel

Once you’ve let your brows grow, tinted them and shaded them to look fuller with a brow pencil, keep the look in place with a clear brow gel. A gel is also a great way to get a messier, fuller look instantly. Gee recommends brushing brows upwards and letting the gel set to achieve that slightly unkempt “I woke up like this” Cara Delevingne-look.
