Welcome to 7-Eleven, the convenience store known for its questionable rotating hot dogs, fresh taquitos, Krispy Kreme donuts, an array of slushie flavours, and… a full line of makeup?

Well, guess there’s a first for everything.

That’s right, the corner store and sometimes gas station is now offering up a full line of beauty products aimed at busy women with a penchant for vibrant lips and dewy cheeks, opening up a whole new potential market for itself.

Simply Me Beauty is the new line from the franchise that retails for $3-5 US, and includes various colour palettes, contour sticks, glossy lip colours and more. The thinking, according to a press release, is that many people buy new makeup as an impulse purchase. So why not offer some inexpensive options at the checkout when you’re on your lunch break grabbing a bag of chips?

“For a millennial working woman wanting to refresh her makeup while grabbing lunch at 7-Eleven stores, Simply Me Beauty is a welcomed offering and is priced just right for her,” category manager Joy Pico said, also promising that the 37-piece line would work on a variety of skin tones. “Much of the time, makeup items like lip and eye colours are spur-of-the-moment, impulse buys. If the price is right, that makes it easier to justify.”

Sure, for five bucks or less the price is certainly right, but it will be hard to judge the quality of the products until they actually unroll in stores at the end of the year. Until then, some beauty bloggers have been giving the products a whirl in advance, including Carly Humbert. In the video below she does her complete face with some very mixed reviews.

Oily lipstick? We may take a pass on that, but we are intrigued by the shimmering highlighters. Of course that’s all banking on the line eventually coming to Canada. At time of press reps for the franchise couldn’t confirm whether this line would actually be making its way north, but like most things, if Simply Me Beauty is successful enough we may be able to buy lip gloss with our slushies soon enough.

Until then, looks like it’s just regular old Walmart makeup for those of us wanting a bargain.
