We get it — working out is a commitment in a world already filled with commitments. It’s not just the physical act of working out that makes it so hard. It’s going to the gym. Getting showered and doing your hair and/or makeup. Setting your alarm extra early when you’re already exhausted from all of the running around.
Trying to work out is… well, it’s work.
But what if we told you there’s a whole slew of workout programs out there these days that put your old Jane Fonda and Suzanne Somers VHS tapes to shame? We’re talking variety-filled, hardcore and time-friendly workouts that are guaranteed to tone you up, slim you down and have you actually following those New Year’s resolutions.
Sure, you still have to put in the effort, but at least you can squeeze your workouts in at home. No crowded January gyms required.
1. 21 Day Fix
Autumn Calabrese is one ripped lady and now we know why. Her three-week program comes with portion-control containers and seven different workouts that range from weights, plyometrics, yoga and pilates. Each day is another workout that promises to get you one step closer to that dream body, no matter what your gender. Need something a bit more challenging? Go with the 21 Day Fix Extreme, which incorporates heavier weights.
The P90X workout has been around for a while, but that’s because it gets serious results. It is, however, a little too extreme for some. That’s why we love P90–a shorter, more universal program that’s still guaranteed to get results when followed properly. The DVD pack comes with ten different workouts and three phases, meaning you can grow with it and never get bored.
3. Focus T25
Want to get huge results in the least amount of time possible? Then you’d better be ready to give everything you’ve got for a full 25 minutes a day. Or at least that’s Sean T‘s philosophy behind this program, which fits a full hour’s worth of workouts into less than half that time. Comes with 10 workouts and two phases.
4. Brazil Butt Lift
Looking to get a better rear in the New Year? We highly recommend this workout from Leandro Carvalho that’s designed to kick you right in the booty. The featured TriAngle training method is supposed to target all those problem areas and give you a backside like Beyoncé in no time.
5. Jillian Michaels’ Body Revolution
If you’re looking for an all-over body makeover and want to call in one of the most famous experts around, this program — which includes a diet plan, community support and a workout schedule — may be for you. The best part is that it’s designed to work with your current fitness levels, so that you can continue to grow and profit from the plan as you begin to get in shape.
6. Zumba Incredible Results System
Always wanted to try Zumba but have been too overwhelmed to go to an actual class? Practice from the comfort of your own home with this system, which includes a handy learning guide, an express workout and a blend of other routines that’ll have you dancing away those calories in no time.
7. Country Heat
If you love line dancing, country music and workouts that don’t actually feel like they’re a workout, this pack is definitely for you. There are six different routines that combine all the right dance moves to get you in the grove while torching fat and kicking your cardio up a notch. Add in the portion control diet plan and you’ll be two-stepping your way to a slimmer bod before you know it. Stetson not included.
8. Core de Force
Kickboxing classes are the ultimate cathartic release, aren’t they? Luckily you don’t have to go to a class to get that same release with this new program from trainers Joel and Jericho. Each workout combines MMA moves with a cardio kick in order to train the midsection and develop stability. You’ll be (right) hooked by the end of the first workout.
9. Bob Harper: Yoga for the Warrior
Love yoga but know that you need to kick it up a notch in order to get results? New Biggest Loser host (and longtime trainer) Bob Harper has your fix. He’s got two extreme yoga workouts to help tone and shape up, but still give you that peace you crave. The best part? You can get a free sample of the workout here.
