It’s hard not to feel a bout of jealous rage, the kind that forms in the pit of your stomach, when you spot a Victoria’s Secret Angel or the like snapped with effortlessly perfect hair. Even as Hollywood’s finest are picking up eggs and almond milk from the grocery store, their hair looks glossy and magnificent. Surely they didn’t #wakeuplikethis, but that doesn’t stop you from longing for perfectly coiffed tresses of your own.

To rid yourself from the rage that goes hand-in-hand with hair envy, we enlisted celebrity stylist and Pantene ambassador Chuck Amos to dish on some styling tricks he uses every day. This man hasn’t met a mane he can’t tame. Yes, Amos plays with hair for a living, expertly crafting stars like Adriana Lima, Solange, Alicia KeysTracee Ellis Ross and Gabby Sidibe’s locks into flawless looks we long to wear in our everyday life.

Here, Amos pulls back the curtain and answers ten pressing question about celebrity hair secrets. Read on and take note–your best hair days of 2017 are yet to come.

What are some secrets to achieve glossy, healthy hair at home?
Moisturizing your hair is very important as healthy hair is the most functional for style. If you are constantly using heat and changing your hairstyle throughout the week, you should add deep conditioning to your haircare routine. I like the Pantene Pro-V 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner, which has been created to meet specific hair needs in just three minutes. Using the right formula in the collection, it can transform dry hair into strong, healthy hair. Try leaving it in overnight to see super moisturization the next day.

Let’s be honest, how often should someone be trimming their hair?
You should trim your hair every five weeks, if your hair is chronically dry and damaged. As your hair becomes more moisturized and healthy, you can trim ends every two to three months.

Sometimes we think that expensive equals better. Are there any budget-friendly products you can recommend that make hair look red-carpet ready?
This is a big myth I hear all the time. High-end products don’t equal better results. It’s all in the ingredients and the way they are formulated. There are definitely affordable products on the market to help protect the investment you make each time you colour or cut your hair. But you have to choose the right ones.

For coloured hair, I love the new Pantene Pro-V Colour Preserve line. These products have specially designed antioxidants that help prevent colour-fade, which is really the result of damage to the hair protein that happens during the colouring process, and from the copper that can be found in the water used to wash hair. For those with colour-treated hair, that will ensure you are red carpet ready!

Is there a secret to getting that pro blowout look at home?
The secret to a great blowout starts with a great two-inch roll brush. Section off your hair into two-inch by two-inch sections. You want to use a blowout formula/product(s) that adds moisture to your hair without weighing down or making you feel stiff or sticky. After blow drying each section and sections of hair, pin sections so roots stand upward. This will create natural volume. Take hair out of sections and brush hair all together, then shake and style accordingly.

To finish the look, use Pantene Pro-V Smooth Anti-Humidity Airspray to tame frizz and unruly hair, leaving it feeling moisturized and silky soft for a lasting smooth style. To avoid overuse, apply less of the product than a typical hairspray.

How can we fix a bad hair day without popping on a hat? Are there any simple hairstyles that’ll save us for a day?
You can always opt to air dry your hair. I suggest using Pantene Pro-V Curl Sculpting Gel to your curls. It provides curl definition on wet or dry hair, keeping it touchably soft while providing weightless volume and strong hold to protect against humidity. You can also try pulling your hair up on the sides or in a topknot; this way you only have to style a small section of your hair when having a bad hair day.

You’ve worked with a slew of famous celebs, including Alicia Keys. How do you style natural hair textures?
Pantene has identified the best product regimen to help strengthen curly hair by using Pantene Pro-V Curl Perfection Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner and Pantene Pro-V Style Series Maximum Hold Mousse to gently cleanse hair and maintain your curls all day.

We spotted Adriana Lima on your Instagram account. Any tips to getting that soft wavy Victoria’s Secret look?
After your perfect blow dry (as described above), use a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron, and in small sections curling hair back and away from face. Use a small amount of styling cream to separate curls, then use a dry shampoo while your head is upside down shaking your curls loose. When you stand upright, you should have that bedroom-swept Victoria’s Secret soft waves and curls for a sexy look!

Celebs will chop off their long hair for a certain acting role (while us regular folk will do it just because). How do you suggest we grow out our hair most effectively?
By keeping it moisturized to the max, while watching the ends of your hair. The ends will tell you how healthy they are, and when to trim them (by splitting, etc.). Keeping your hair moisturized and strong from the core is the most effective way to grow your hair out.

What haircuts (and for what hair types) are you predicting for 2017?
The main cut has been the short pixie cut (think Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby). For wavy hair I see shag cuts coming in, and for natural hair I suggest anything wild and crazy. Just make sure that your ends are trimmed and healthy.

Can you share any of your favourite celebrity hair secrets that we can get in on?
There are different styling secrets that vary from style to style, but the biggest secret across the board is the products I use. They must promote moisturization and health, create shine, feel soft to the touch and have a lasting capabilities. With products like that, any hairstyle becomes a celebrity quality coiff!
