Chris Evans is in talks to join the upcoming remake of Little Shop of Horrors. The musical comedy and horror film is in the early stages of production and The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the film could reunite Evans with his Avengers co-star Scarlett Johansson.Evans is being considered to play sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, a role that was portrayed on-screen by Steve Martin in the 1986 Little Shop of Horrors film. That film was based on a 1982 Off-Broadway musical of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, which in turn was based on a 1960 film directed by Roger Corman.Directed by Frank Oz, the 1986 film featured an A-list lineup of comedy and acting greats, including Martin along with Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Jim Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest and Bill Murray. The story follows meek and mild florist Seymour, who is in love with his co-worker Audrey. The pair secretly harbor feelings for one another, but Audrey is in an abusive relationship with a sadistic dentist named Orin (the role Evans is rumoured to be portraying in the new film). So, more Knives Out than Captain America. Seymour finally gets the chance to earn fame and fortune when he comes into possession of a rare plant, but quickly learns that the plant can only grow by eating human blood.[video_embed id='1838691']RELATED: Why Chris Evans was ready to move on from Captain America[/video_embed]The latest iteration of the iconic story is being brought to the big screen by Greg Berlanti, who is best known for his work on TV shows like Dawson’s Creek, Brothers & Sisters, Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and You. Berlanti made the jump to features in 2018 with fan favourite Love, Simon. Scarlett Johansson is in the final stages of signing on to the film to play Audrey, while Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton is rumoured to be taking on the lead role of Seymour, which was last played on the big screen by Moranis. Billy Porter is the only actor confirmed at this time, with the Emmy and Tony winner set to provide the voice of the plant, which Seymour dubs Audrey II.The iconic Broadway show-turned-movie features several famous musical numbers, including “Dentist!” and “Suddenly, Seymour.” Johansson, Egerton and Porter have all sung on stage and screen, but Evans is relatively unproven in terms of musical performances. Well, we have heard him sing a little bit. Evans’ latest role was as spoiled heir Ransom Drysdale in Rian Johnson’s 2019 film Knives Out. The mystery caper has already been confirmed for a sequel, though it’s unclear whether Evans’ character will return. The actor is currently filming the limited series Defending Jacob, where he stars opposite Michelle Dockery. The pair play parents of a 14-year-old boy who is accused of murder.[video_embed id='1895667']RELATED: The 'Knives Out' sequel is officially happening[/video_embed]
