Asking for a person’s hand in marriage is obviously a pretty big deal; it’s an event that some people plan for months and months (and sometimes dream about for years). From sports stadiums and flash mobs to getting down on one knee in a private setting, proposals often become a part of a couple’s story in a pretty big way.
But when in the history of wedding proposals have two people decided to propose to each other on the same day, at the same time and in the same way? Even if you don’t believe in soul mates you have to admit that’s clearly a match made in heaven. And that’s exactly why people are warming to Tori Monaco and Berkley Cade‘s story.
The couple began seriously thinking about marriage roughly four months ago, after realizing they were ready to take things to the next level.
“We are each other’s first same-sex relationship, so we were blown away by our ability to connect with each other immediately and find the happiness we had been looking for,” Cade told Buzzfeed.
So Cade went ring shopping and found the perfect piece of bling to propose with. Then she confided in her mother, Kristy, that she wanted to pop the question during an upcoming trip to visit family in Washington, and that she would do it during a game of Pictionary.
Well, what’s even cuter is that Monaco then confided in Kristy that she had bought a ring and wanted to propose during the trip. Kristy hid her shock and mentioned setting up a games night so that she could do it then, and Monaco came up with the idea of doing it during charades. Of course Kristy, knowing what plans were already in motion, suggested Pictionary instead and the rest was history.
“When [Berkley] began drawing the picture and had her hands shaking and was taking so long to draw the prompt, I had my heart pounding thinking she must know I am going to propose,” Monaco told the publication. “There is no way she is proposing too. And when I got down on one knee and proposed and she was struck mute, I figured I would give a speech and she would say yes, but instead she pulls out her own ring. I [was] laughing at the coincidence, crying tears of happiness, and unbelievably shocked that something so perfect was happening to me.”
How do you not smile at that story? Even better is that there’s a video capturing it all, a video that has, of course, gone viral ever since the happy couple shared it on Twitter.

Now, Cade and Monaco are basking in the glow of all of that social media love and are planning their upcoming day. It all goes down on Sept. 27, 2019, and while we’re not expecting an invite or anything, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for photos and videos from the big event.
Bring on wedding season, we say. With soul mate stories like these, it’s hard not to believe in the power of love.
