On Thursday, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez broke his silence on social media following the July shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez, who Megan says shot her in both feet following an argument on July 12, released his latest album this week, upsetting fans by using the violent event as material and promotion for the project. At 4:28 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, Lanez posted for the first time since July 11. “To my fans ... I’m sorry for my silence .... but respectfully .. I got time today ...... 9 PM PST,” tweeted Lanez, leading many to speculate that the rapper was going to make a formal apology for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Instead, he dropped a new album. Following a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s home on July 12, Megan and Tory left in an SUV and allegedly got into a verbal altercation that ended with Lanez exiting the vehicle and shooting the Houston native. Megan underwent surgery to remove the bullets, which thankfully missed hitting major tendons. Lanez was arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed weapon and was released after posting bail. He is expected to appear in court on October 13.[video_embed id='1994893']RELATED: Rapper Tory Lanez arrested after house party that leaves Megan Thee Stallion injured[/video_embed]On August 20, Megan appeared on Instagram Live and confirmed that it was Lanez who shot her. “Yes this n—a Tory shot me,” Megan says in the video. “You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and shit. Stop lying. Why lie?”Now Lanez is responding with his new album Daystar, which features several tracks referencing the shooting. The 17-album song, which Lanez named after himself (real name Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson), includes the song “Money Over Fallouts.” On it, Lanez raps via Complex, "Megan people trying to frame me for a shooting / But them boys ain't clean enough,” and "Girl, you had the nerve to write that statement on that affidavit / Knowing I ain't do it but I'm coming at my truest."The album also includes the song “Sorry But I Had To…” which includes the lines "And though I'm innocent, they got this picture painted heavily,” and "You n—a playin' Instagram, I'm playin' real life /  Think I'm finna talk about a open case just for some likes?"Lanez also raps about his relationship with Megan, which he describes as romantic in the song “Friend Become Strangers” but adds that the “WAP” rapper became jealous because of Lanez’s crush on Jenner. Lanez also criticizes other artists on his album, including Chance The Rapper, JoJo and Kehlani, with both women removing Tory Lanez from their 2020 albums following the shooting.Fans are pushing back on Lanez’s album, which at current time is not available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify or Tidal, possibly because of legal ramifications. Lifestyle website High Snobriety has announced they are standing with Megan Thee Stallion and all Black women, announcing they will no longer post stories about Lanez. Many are calling for a boycott of Lanez’s album and referencing the rapper’s decision to release Daystar only days after the ruling in Breonna Taylor’s case left the late EMT with no justice.
