When Taylor Swift dropped a music video where she basically called out everyone she’s ever met, including herself, she had to expect some mixed reviews. And that’s exactly what she got. The Swifties are in an uproar, the fans of her ‘enemies’ are furious and a lot of us are just standing in the midst of the chaos, trying to make sense of what we’ve just witnessed.
While fans have a lot of theories about who Taylor is calling out in every millisecond of her ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ video, one theory that’s getting a lot of traction–and hate–is about the bathtub scene. Originally, a lot of fans figured it was a call-back to what Taylor said about her character in the ‘Blank Space’ video–that she cries about boys ‘in her marble bathtub surrounded by pearls.’ Upon further examination, Kim Kardashian fans are claiming that it’s a cheap dig at Kim.
Last fall, Kim K was robbed at gunpoint in her apartment in Paris. She was gagged with duct tape and thrown in the bathtub while men dressed as police stole millions of dollars worth of jewelry. While it’s easy to forget that celebrities are people too, Kim talked about how traumatic the event was for her and it was no joke. She was completely helpless and alone and thought those men were going to rape or kill her. Kim fans are saying that the bathtub, the jewels and the moment when Taylor bites onto a bracelet like it’s a gag are all too familiar to be coincidences. Pair that with the fact that she’s got beef with the Kardashian-Wests and there’s quite the compelling case. For a lot of people, that crosses the line.

Say what you want about Kim, Taylor, but that crosses the line. Kim thought she was going to be raped and killed.

Taylor and her team haven’t made a statement either confirming or denying if that part of the video is a reference to Kim K getting robbed. At best, it’s an insensitive coincidence.
There are a ton more observations and theories about the rest of the video too though. Here are some of the best ones the internet has to offer.
Obviously, fans identified all the Taylors in the pile
Near the end of the video, New Taylor stands atop a pile of her past-selves. While quite a few are recognizable from her music videos, fans have been able to identify ones from award shows and photo-shoots too.
Maybe spray-painting Taylor is the real one
Fans noted that the Taylor that spray-paints ‘Reputation’ on a plane at the end of the video must be the Real Taylor–if such a thing exists–because she doesn’t resemble any other recognizable Taylor era.
That symbolic $1
Taylor recently won a sexual harassment lawsuit against a radio DJ who she alleged felt her up during a photo-op. She sued him for a symbolic $1, then donated a larger sum to organizations that offer support to victims of sexual assault.
And there in the bathtub of pearls, lies the one dollar that Taylor Swift won in her case.

I heart T.S.
Is it a dig? Is it a shout-out? Whatever her intentions, Taylor has a troupe of backup dancers don shirts that say ‘I heart T.S.’ which are almost identical to the one Tom Hiddleston infamously wore to Taylor’s Fourth of July party last year while they were dating.

Shout-out to the not-haters
While there’s a lot–a lot–of shade in this video, Taylor takes a minute to acknowledge that there are a few people she can still call her friends. Namely, her famous girl-squad and Ed Sheeran. All their names are written on her ‘You Belong With Me’ t-shirt.
And here’s just some more stuff
There’s so much and the Swifties are coming up with more all the time. Covering the symbolism in this video is worse than covering Donald Trump. Here are just a bunch more connections and theories.
TAYLOR LIKED THIS TOO, I like this theory about the old Taylors pic.twitter.com/h4fkLwHmFl
