When it comes to baby food, the brand that probably springs to mind first is Gerber — even if you don’t feed it to your kids. Because not only are they famous for their grub, the company is also famous for who’s promoting it: the iconic Gerber Baby. The ‘spokesbaby’ who represents the brand may change every year, but they’re always unmistakably sweet-cheeked, sparkly-eyed and adorable. 2018’s Gerber Baby is all that and so much more.

Little Lucas, from Dalton, Georgia, is the first child with Down syndrome to be the face of the brand — and he couldn’t be cuter or more perfect.

“Lucas’ winning smile and joyful expression won our hearts this year, and we are all thrilled to name him our 2018 Spokesbaby,” Gerber President and CEO Bill Partyka said in a statement. “Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, and this year, Lucas is the perfect fit.”

Lucas’ dad, Jason Warren, told NBC’s Today, “We’re hoping this will impact everyone — that it will shed a little bit of light on the special needs community and help more individuals with special needs be accepted and not limited. They have the potential to change the world, just like everybody else.”

Lucas’ mom, Cortney Warren, added that she hopes her son won’t only be seen as a baby with Down syndrome but just a baby.

“We hope this opportunity sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world — just like our Lucas!” Adorable.
