Double the Harry

London’s Leicester Square was the home of the Dunkirk premiere, which features a brilliant cast that includes Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy and Mark Rylance. But if you’re a One Direction fan, you also know that Dunkirk marks the acting debut of Harry Styles, so if you were in earshot of the area, those deafening screams were for him.

The story, which tells the true story of trapped Allied troops needing rescue from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940, is an important one, so much so that former military man Prince Harry attended, walked the red carpet with real-life vets and then met the cast. And Harry meeting Harry was lovely but the vets receiving the strongest reception is what made the premiere that much more amazing.

Gorgeous portrait released in honour of Camilla’s birthday

It was the Duchess of Cornwall’s birthday on Sunday, and to honour her 70th year, a new portrait was unveiled. Taken by Mario Testino in the Morning Room in Clarence House, it features both Camilla and Prince Charles and it’s quite beautiful indeed. Happy belated!

The next Doctor Who is a female doc, finally!

It’s about damn time. BBC announced on Sunday that Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker was named the 13th Doctor in Doctor Who, making her the first woman in the role. She’ll make her debut as the new time lord on the Christmas episode, which will be broadcast on Space.

And let’s just say the reactions have been wonderful, from cast members and actors who played former Doctors to people simply delighted at this new changing of the guard.

Aladdin finds its stars for the live-action version

It was a running joke for a while there that Disney was struggling to find an actor to play Aladdin, but casting of the two main characters — Aladdin and Jasmine — was announced at the D23 Expo on Saturday and it’s kind of great.

Egyptian-born Canadian actor Mena Massoud will play Aladdin and British-Indian actress Naomi Scott will play Jasmine. A lot of responsibility, but nowhere near what Will Smith will deal with as he takes on the Genie role, made so famous by the late Robin Williams. Now those are some big, floppy shoes to fill. But if anyone can make it all happen, it’s director Guy Ritchie. This is a whole new world, people.

Ed Sheeran’s Game of Thrones cameo was far from subtle

Celebrity cameos are nothing new on Game of Thrones, but Ed Sheeran‘s was a little too much for fans to handle. With Arya Stark riding horseback through the woods, she came across a group of soldiers singing a campfire song. And that’s when Eddie turned around for his close-up.

He got some pretty decent air time in the rest of the scene as Arya and the soldiers bantered back and forth and considering Maisie Williams is such a huge fan of the singer, it was kind of sweet that the showrunners got them together but, come on.

Until they meet again. Maybe.
