This world of ours is filled with craggy coastlines and lush jungles just begging to be explored, but some countries are bound to fuel your wanderlust more than others. Rough Guides, a travel and guidebook publishing company, asked its globetrotting readers to help determine the most aesthetically-pleasing country in the world through a poll, and the masses have spoken: Scotland has been named the fairest of them all.

With its breathtaking ocean vistas, seemingly endless rolling hills and enough history to make your head spin, it’s no wonder why it placed first. Those Scots are lucky folks, for sure, but so are we here in Canada. In fact, our nation snagged the second spot on the list. (We already know how beautiful our country is, but it’s still nice to hear it from others.) Additional jaw-dropping destinations rounding out the top five include New Zealand, Italy and South Africa.

If you need convincing that Scotland is worthy of that number one spot, these stunning photos should do it.
