Next week, The Amazing Race Canada contestants head to beautiful and historic Quebec City. Who will be able to speak French? Who will play hockey? Who will eat poutine? Throw your very own French Canadian party and it could be you.

Mettre dans l’ambiance
There are so many different directions you can take this. You can turn your dining room into French-style bistro with chalk board signs, several small tables pushed together, candles and some French-language music. Guests can be instructed to dress tres chic like the beautiful and sophisticated people of Montreal. Or pin up fleur-de-lis and make an arrangement of maple leaves and fake snow. Prop up an edition of The Hockey Sweater and any other cultural nods to Quebec you can find. Encourage lumberjack shirts and toques. Or you can go all-out and have it both ways!

Dans le menu
There’s no shortage of food to choose from either. Put out a great big spread full of split-pea soup, baked beans, pâté chinois, tortières, Montreal smoked meat, bagels, poutine and crêpes with maple syrup. Pulled taffy and tarte au sucre make the perfect sweet finish.

À boire
Make a special trip to your local beer store and ask about microbreweries from Quebec. Unibroue and McAuslan are two bigger breweries with several kinds of beer to choose from as well. Serve your favourite soft drinks for those who don’t want beer and don’t forget to have some nice strong coffee brewing for the end of the meal.

À faire
An old-fashioned game of road hockey will help kids of all ages work off their meal. You can also pillage your parents’ basement for the table hockey game everybody has tucked away somewhere and set up a mini tournament. Or design a trivia game about Quebec heritage instead for the brainier types. Just make sure you don’t miss the next episode of The Amazing Race Canada because things are beginning to heat up.
