You might know Shane Koyczan as the spoken word poet who performed during the Vancouver Olympics opening ceremonies. Now the 36-year-old from Yellowknife is getting more international attention after releasing a video project about the lasting effects of bullying.

Koyczan speaks about his experiences growing up and about being bullied by classmates.

“My experiences with violence in schools still echo throughout my life but standing to face the problem has helped me in immeasurable ways,” says Koyczan on his website.

“I wrote “To This Day”, a spoken word poem, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.”

This video stopped us in our tracks, and we hope it stops some bullies too.
