The love of a father for his son brought the 10-year-old boy to tears during a recent interview with NBC’s Today Show.
Rasan Portlock was telling reporter Rehema Ellis about the strides he’s seen his son, Ryheim, make thanks to improvements in the boy’s Charlotte, N.C. school when the 29-year-old dad became wistful about his son’s future.
“He always had big dreams,” Portlock told the news network. “I’m just proud of him. I’ve got his back. Whatever he needs I’m going to try to give it to him.”
Ryheim, a smart and ambitious student who wants to be a genetic engineer, got emotional when Ellis asked him what his father’s words meant to him.
“When you hear your dad say he’s proud of you, what’s going through your mind right now?” she asked, prompting the boy to break into tears.
“What you said about me,” he replied to his father. “That you look forward to me growing up.”
And so in a simple interview about the way educational reform can change people’s lives, the rest of us get to see the way the expression of love can transform all our hearts.
This video gets a definite 2-Kleenex rating.
