After another trip to the hospital, Hazel Hammersley and her family started getting a little stir crazy.
The two-year-old had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma in her abdomen this past April, and while her parents are hopeful of her recovery, the chemo and hospital beds are quite a bit to bear for a toddler, who should be playing with her friends and getting into mischief without any encumbrances.
Thankfully, Hazel’s grandmother has a sharp wit and sense of adventure.
Enlisting the help of her sweet granddaughter, she and Hazel’s mom put up a sign in her hospital window. “Send Pizza Rm 4112″ the sign read.
A few days passed with no activity. Then a kind-hearted driver happened to pass by and thought he’d heed the call.
He ordered a pizza and posted the story to Reddit. As you can imagine, this led to a deluge of cheesy pies headed toward Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
More than 20 pizzas arrived, to the point where hospital staff had to encourage well-meaning folks to stop sending more.
As you can imagine, a toddler can’t eat so much pizza, no matter how much she loves it, so Hazel’s family invited all her friends and the enjoyed the best pizza party in the history of pizza parties.
Seriously. There will never be a better pizza party again.
