It may not be sprinting as fast as we want it to, but Canada’s economy is steadily growing according to data released today by Statistics Canada.
12,500 jobs were added to the economy in April primarily in the public sector. The unemployment rate, however, stayed the same.
“This was broadly in line with expectation,” RBC’s assistant chief economist, Dawn Desjardins, told CTV news.
“We are no longer in that very slow motion grow that we saw in the second half of 2012,” she said. “I think we are probably growing close to our potential.”
Desjardins is fairly optimistic for the remainder of 2013.
“We think that growth will continue at a 2% pace,” she said. “We’ve got a lot of good things happening.”
