So what on earth possessed Robin Esrock to want to try this frightening hike?
“Adventures are all about opportunity,” Esrock says. “I was in China, relatively nearby. How could I not check it out? Did I know it would be as wild? No, but I really wanted to find that path, and I walked very, very slowly.”
And apparently trying this adventure just one time was not enough.
“I’d do it again,” said Esrock, who is eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first child any day now. “As crazy as it is, Chinese tourists do this every day.”
Mt Huashan is located in Huayin city, 120 kilometers east of ancient Xian, Shaanxi province. You can catch a train from the Xian railway station which takes about an hour and a half to get to the Mt. Huashan stop. From there a taxi or public transit will take you Yuquan Yuan (Jade Spring Temple) booking office where the hike begins.
