Did you ever dream of becoming an astronaut? Maybe you just wanted to see the Earth from afar and get to float around in space for a bit? One Canadian travel agency is making it easier for you to do so.
Uniktour, a travel agency in Quebec, has teamed up with Space Expedition Corp. and XCor Aerospace to give Canadians in the Quebec market a chance to voyage on a suborbital flight.
Uniktour is offering its clients two different packages that include astronaut training and hotel accommodation.
For US $95,000, passengers can spend 45 minutes onboard the Lynx Mark 1 space plane. They will be launched 60 kilometres above the Earth and experience three to four minutes of pure weightlessness.
For US $100,000, travellers can voyage in the Mark II for 60 minutes and hover more than 100 kilometres above the Earth’s surface. These lucky folk will get to be weightless for five to six minutes.
Seeing how the shuttles are still undergoing tests, flights aren’t set to launch into action until 2014 and will blast off from spaceports on an island off the coast of Venezuela and in the Mojave Desert in California.
But don’t fret, the rest of Canada need not be jealous, as a similar deal will soon give all of us a chance to take part in this out-of-this-world experience.
