The city of Montreal is renown for many things, including its stunning architecture, huge festivals, world-class shopping and exciting nightlife. But undoubtedly, two of Montreal’s greatest claims to fame are its restaurants and hockey team. So, why not bring them together?

That’s exactly what the Montreal Canadiens are trying to do. Partnering with Cara, a restaurant operating company, the Montreal Canadiens are opening not one, but two state-of-the-art restaurants this year. Score!

The title of both restaurants, 1909 Taverne Moderne, honours the year the Montreal Canadiens became a professional hockey team, making them the longest-running professional hockey team in the world.

The downtown location will be the larger of the two restaurants, measuring in at 25,714 square feet, and will have the capacity to hold 1,000 hungry, hockey-loving customers. It’ll be the largest restaurant of its kind in Canada, and will take up three floors in a 50-level condominium.

The largest restaurant will be located right next to the Bell Centre, the Montreal Canadiens’ home arena. It’ll feature an ultra-high-definition, 46-foot by 20-foot TV, with over 65 other high-definition TVs airing must-see sports channels throughout the venue. A DJ will also be on-site to keep the party atmosphere going seven days a week.

A second, slightly smaller, but just as impressive restaurant will be located at the Place Bell in Laval.

“We know that Montrealers are as discerning about their restaurants as they are about their sports. With 1909 Taverne Moderne, our goal is to give fans a space where they won’t have to choose between having a great meal and watching their favorite event in an electric atmosphere,” said Montreal Canadiens Owner, President, and CEO, Geoff Molson in a press release. “We’re very excited about this new venture and are looking forward to welcoming fans to 1909 in time for the start of the new NHL season.”

As for the food, 1909 Moderne Taverne will feature what they describe as “locally-sourced international cuisine.”

Although not many other specifics have been released on the menu, 1909 Moderne Taverne has launched Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages featuring dishes that already have us salivating:

According to the press release, 1909 Moderne Taverne will also offer “40 taps offering international, domestic, and locally crafted beers, an extensive wine list, and an innovative cocktail menu.”

The larger location next to the Bell Centre is expected to open in time for the 2017-2018 NHL season, while the Place Bell in Laval location is scheduled to open later this fall. And as long as the food’s good, it’ll probably be a major hit with the fans.
