President Jacob Zuma ordered all flags to be lowered to half mast, where they will remain until after what will be an official state funeral. Stephen Harper offered his condolences to the Mandela family, saying ‘the world has lost one of its greatest moral leaders and statesmen.’

Reports saying Stephen Harper is preparing to retire are ‘completely false.’ Communications Director Jason MacDonald made the comments after a story published in the National Post Wednesday referred to ‘open speculation’ in Ottawa that the prime minister will announce his plans to resign after returning from a trip to Israel. ‘The Prime Minister intends to lead to Conservative Party into the next election,’ MacDonald said. “He intends to run in 2015.’
A lost dog survived after spending three weeks alone and starving. The Henley family say the drama started on Nov. 9 when a neighbour started setting off fireworks, frightening their pet named Chopper. Last Friday, however, the family received a phone call saying the dog had been spotted in a ditch. ‘Chest deep in the water, one paw was stuck out to the side, he was pretty much lifeless,’ said Mark Henley.

Media lawyer Peter Jacobsen explained the Crown’s options: ‘They present their case, the defence lawyer gets up and says there’s no proof of what was in the pipe or whatever, and that’s the end of it.’
