Alcohol: The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.

Homer Simpson’s old quote couldn’t prove any truer for a Windsor man who dreamed of swimming across the Detroit River. John Morillo had been saying for years that he could make it from one end to the other – no problem. But maybe his overconfidence caught up with him, because Morillo decided to have a couple drinks before Monday night’s big swim.

That proved to be his undoing.

Surprisingly, Morillo made it across. But swimming back was where he ran into trouble: The Detroit News reported that three boats and a helicopter were deployed to rescue the swimmer.

The 47-year-old was told he’ll likely be fined for swimming in a shipping channel. And Morillo later told the Windsor Star that he regretted causing problems for authorities on both sides of the border.

Now that’s a situation to drink to.
