If you think Olympians are given access to every amenity they could possibly think of, you’re wrong. Sure, they have a florist and a beauty salon at their freshly manicured fingertips. And yes, there is even a McDonald’s in the Olympic Village, just for the athletes. But there’s one thing they don’t have easy access to: Coffee.
While most of us can’t get out of bed in the morning without a hot cup of Joe, the world’s best athletes are running marathons, swimming laps and doing flips all without their daily dose of caffeine.
Why? Because Coca Cola. As an official sponsor of the games, Coke is providing all the drinks at the Olympic Village. And the one thing Coke doesn’t make is coffee.
Rio boasted about having all the amenities that the athletes could possibly want, but some were quick to point out that coffee doesn’t seem to be included on that list. And while the Olympians can get a kick of caffeine from the Coca Cola drinks that are surely everywhere, we’re sure it’s not the same as a steaming cup of java in the morning.
On the bright side, there is, of course, coffee available in Rio; it just requires Olympians and fans to take a walk downtown. We’re pretty sure it’s worth it to get your caffeine fix. In an Olympics where one problem seems to follow on the heels of the next, coffee has been added to the list.
