When your brand new husband jumps into a river–tux and all–to save a little boy an hour after your wedding, you know you just married a real catch. Clayton and Brittany Cook were having their wedding pictures taken in a Kitchener, Ontario park when the groom noticed a little boy struggling in the nearby river. He rushed over before anyone could register what was going on and plucked the boy from the water.

‘I look over and I see Clay in the water and I think, what is he doing?’ Brittany told CTV, ‘It was just like fate almost.

‘That’s Clay. That’s Clay to me,’ she added, ‘That doesn’t even surprise me that that happened. That’s something he would instinctively do.’

‘His face was underwater, he was fighting, he was really fighting,’ Clayton said, ‘Lucky he was just a little guy and I could get him. I grabbed him… and I honestly just sort of hucked him up.’ Even better, the couple’s wedding photographer, Darren Hatt caught the whole thing.

‘It was a commendable thing he did,’ said Hatt, ‘He sprung into action incredibly quick. Almost as soon as I realized what was going on, he had already saved the day.’

The boy didn’t say anything to the couple, and an older sibling took him away shortly after. Two other children told the couple that they had pushed the boy in while they were playing. The Cooks are just relieved that they aren’t telling a different story today.

‘How different everyone’s day would have been if we weren’t in the right place at the right time,’ Brittany said. Thankfully for everyone involved, the couple was right where they needed to be.
