It’s never too early to empower our girls. They need to know they can do anything they set their mind to, they can make their dreams become reality with a little hard work and dedication, they can look however they want, dress however they want, as long as the only person they’re looking to impress is themselves.

And girls, you definitely don’t need a boyfriend (or girlfriend) to make your life feel complete because a relationship doesn’t guarantee happiness, nor is there nothing you can’t do without one. Which is basically what this bad-ass boy had to say to his little sister. Sort of.

Big brother Marley is just a smidge overprotective of his younger sister, Brooklyn. The siblings were sitting in the back of the car and he goes off on her, spouting off all the reasons she does NOT need a boyfriend right now. Which prompted their mother to start recording immediately. For posterity. Or maybe to play it back whenever one of them needs this pep talk.

When your brother doesn’t approve for you to have a boyfriend @mcneillkids2

Aside from Brooklyn only being in kindergarten, Marley tells her she has “so many things to do” in life than think about boys. Important things like working on her “shapes, handwriting, math, all that stuff.”

Brooklyn can roll her eyes like the best of us, which is what she does several times as her brother keeps going, but Marley’s not having that, adding that she should be learning basic things like “how to write your name” and “practice on your Zs and Ss,” and not worrying about this boy, Dylan. Yeah! What Marley said. Be independent, girl!

Aside from being wholly entertaining, it’s also super-sweet. Marley doling out this life lesson not only shows just how protective he is and how much he cares for Brooklyn, but also how strong their brother-sister bond is. Marley emphasized it all with the most grown-up line ever: “This is the time to tell your truth!” Sigh. From his mouth to Brooklyn’s ears.
