Unlike some, Catherine Zeta-Jones has never hidden her bipolar disorder. It was around this time two years ago when she revealed that she is bipolar, got treatment for it and has spoken out about her experience, trying to dispel some of the myths of the illness. But now Catherine is back in a facility to get treatment, though one report claims it’s merely for maintenance.
“Catherine has proactively checked into a health care facility,” her rep, Cece Yorke, tells People magazine. “Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner.”
A source told People that Zeta-Jones had always intended to get more treatment, so doctors could monitor her medication “There was no big problem,” says the friend. “This was just a good time to do it. She is in between projects. This has always been part of the plan. She would manage her health. She is vigilant about it.” TMZ also reports that her second stint in there is purely for “maintenance.”
“This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them,” Zeta-Jones told People after she completed a stint in a Connecticut facility in 2011. “If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”
I remember the first time I saw Zeta-Jones, when her gorgeous face filled the screen in The Mask of Zorro. It was hard not to fall for her. I mean, THAT FACE. I love how she and husband Michael Douglas have defied the odds and are still together and they have been through so much, what with her disorder and his battle with cancer. Catherine is so awesome and has handled her situation with class. I love how she’s raising awareness of bipolar disorder because there can be a stigma attached to those who suffer from it. Good for Catherine for continuing her fight; here’s hoping she gets what she needs out of her latest stint.
