We haven’t heard too much about the friendship of Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. When Ani isn’t with her fiancé, Justin Theroux, one might find her hanging out with Chelsea Handler or Jimmy Kimmel — but if you’re buying what The Enquirer is selling, then Cox is ready to end their friendship for good.
Courteney’s recent birthday party featured some famous guests including close pals Laura Dern and Isla Fisher, Tobey Maguire‘s wife, Jennifer Meyer, and her Cougar Town co-stars, Busy Philipps and Christa Miller. Noticeably absent was Aniston, who a source claims wasn’t there because Theroux doesn’t want Jen hanging out with her old friends.
“Jen’s absence was the talk of the party,” revealed an insider. “Courteney invited her, but Jen hemmed and hawed and then finally bailed on coming altogether. She used a lame excuse of being tired from too much work.”
But Court later learned the truth — that Justin wants Jen to “freshen up” her friends’ list. The source said that Theroux gave his fiancée such a hard time that Aniston figured declining the invitation would just be easier than having to hear his complaints.
“Her world revolves around Justin,” the insider explained. “After they hooked up, she dropped the friends who had stuck by her through her difficult split from Brad Pitt.” But Cox is tired of Ani’s “flakey behaviour,” and if and when Justin and Jen’s wedding ever happens, she is thinking about skipping it.
“Courteney is sick of forgiving and forgetting,” the insider added. “She’s been slighted by Jen one too many times now.”
It might just be me but I don’t think Justin has as much of an influence over Jen as The Enquirer would like us to believe. She won’t even think about living in New York for him, so I doubt her choice of friends bothers Justin either way. Sure, Jen and Courteney don’t hang out as much as they used to, but that happens with lots of friendships. It might have to do with Courteney having a daughter and spending time with other pals who have kids but I think Jen and Court are the kind of friends who don’t have to see each other for weeks, even months, at a time, but when they do get together, it’s just like old times. We all have friendships like those, don’t we?
