Director Martin Scorsese once said “I love studying Ancient History and seeing how empires rise and fall, sowing the seeds of their own destruction.” Scorsese’s never worked with Gwyneth Paltrow, but he may want to hire her for his next project if he’s so interested in watching empires crumble – Goop, it appears, may be poised for a fall.
“Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine,” read a recent email, allegedly sent by Paltrow to her pals and associates. “If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.” Harsh words from an A-List actress who’s never been one to shy away from public appearances, red carpet events (like the magazine’s renowned Oscar party), and interviews however, Paltrow is reportedly worried about that VF is about to get all investigative on her cashmere-clad butt.
Page Six speculates that what could be worrying Gwyneth is an old story about an alleged affair she may (or may not) have had with billionaire hotel owner Jeff Soffer (Elle Macpherson‘s current husband) back in 2008. The gossip page says that a reporter from the magazine has been sniffing around Soffer’s Miami stomping grounds, asking questions about the actress.
VF‘s editor-in-chief confirms that a story on Paltrow is indeed forthcoming and that the actress isn’t happy about it. “We wouldn’t be doing our job if there wasn’t a little bit of tension between Vanity Fair and its subjects,” he admitted. “In any given week, I can expect to hear from a disgruntled subject in Hollywood, Washington, or on Wall Street… Some famous people believe that they live in a cone of celebrity that protects them, but it doesn’t really exist anymore in LA unless they stay in.”
Despite reports that Soffer flew Goop out to Miami for a party, gave her a private tour of his hotel and a ride on his yacht, and had her stay as a guest in his own home (who does that when they own a luxury hotel?) Paltrow’s newly busy PR team “angrily” told Page Six that “Jeff is a longtime friend of Gwyneth’s and there was no romantic relationship with him at all, He flew many of his friends to Miami that weekend – not just Gwyneth.” Okay, so not just Gwyneth (apparently Kate Hudson made the trip to the sunshine state too), but also, not Chris Martin.
Even if the article turns out to have nothing to do with Soffer, I bet there are plenty of skeletons hiding in Goop’s closet. Page Six cites her fallout with frenemy Madonna for one. Or maybe the world will finally find out what the heck “macrobiotics” are – or that Paltrow secretly eats McDonald’s twice a week. Whatever it is, I can’t wait for the issue to hit news stands.
