When a couple separates, it’s usually safe to assume that divorce is the next step. It’s pretty rare when two people are on a break and then get back together — unless you’re Ross and Rachel, of course.
But add Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones to the list of couples who have made it work because they have reportedly found their way back to one another.
Douglas was photographed wearing his wedding ring at the premiere of his new movie, Last Vegas, and according to the New York Daily News‘ Confidenti@l, he and Zeta-Jones have reunited — and couldn’t be happier.
While on the red carpet, an eyewitness said that Michael held up reporters to answer what he called a “very important call,” presumably from Catherine. He was later overheard telling pals that they have reconciled.
“She called to wish him good luck and he said, ‘Thanks honey,’” recalled the spy. “The only reason she wasn’t by his side is because she didn’t want to take attention away from the film. It was Michael’s night. She wanted to say hello and didn’t realize he was on the carpet already.” Douglas hung up with a smile and continued down the press line.
Another source said that at the after-party, Michael talked about Catherine for most of the evening. “He was sitting in the corner with friends and people kept asking what’s going on with Catherine,” revealed the source. “Michael said, ‘We are doing great, she’s better than ever,’ and said their kids are doing great.”
The insider added that Catherine has moved back into their apartment, and the two are fighting hard to keep the marriage alive.
“Time apart has been positive,” said the source. “They don’t want to throw away all those years and a family so easily. They know they have some problems, but are speaking every day and are scheduling future projects with each other in mind. Both of them are wearing their rings; what more is there to say?”
It was back in August when they released a joint statement via their reps: “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.” It seems like the separation may have indeed worked. Wow, a couple in Hollywood who did what they had to do to make their marriage actual work. Who woulda thunk it?
