Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer dreams about Wonder Woman—then again, who doesn’t? The difference is that while your dreams might be about her Greek-god-granted powers (or her super hot superhero getup), Goyer’s dreams involve writing a script based on the DC comics character after all this Superman stuff is out of the way. With Man of Steel‘s release date fast approaching, Goyer parked himself in front of his laptop for a Reddit Q&A session to talk about the upcoming Superman movie and answer questions about what he’d like to work on next.
“Wonder Woman would be cool,” said Goyer when one Redditor asked what his DC dream job would be. Lucky for him, DC seems to be interested in giving the character her own film—or they were two years ago at least. Wonder Woman could also end up appearing in Justice League, DC’s answer to Marvel’s The Avengers. Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is rumoured to be the first choice to helm Justice League if his Superman movie turns out to be a success. The superhero ensemble movie could be an opportunity to reintroduce Wonder Woman to a wider audience.
Goyer says there are several reasons for the fact that Wonder Woman hasn’t already made her big screen debut. “I think Wonder Woman is a very difficult character to crack. More difficult than Superman, who is also more difficult than Batman,” he explained. “a lot of people in Hollywood believe that it’s hard to do a big action movie with a female lead. I happen to disagree with that. But that tends to be the prevailing wisdom. Hopefully, that’ll change in the next few years.”
As for who he thinks should wield Wonder Woman’s golden lasso (Olivia Wilde? Jennifer Lawrence? Gemma Arterton?), Goyer remains neutral: “No idea,” says the writer.
