We’re not going out on a limb when we say the Internet can be a mean place. Look no further than the stories of cyber-bullying or even your Twitter and Facebook feed. Snarking and gripping abound on both platforms. Comedy site Filmdrunk wants to do something about this. In an effort to make the Net a happier place, they’re amassing the best compliments in movie history.
The site, known for its biting humour, posted a call yesterday for their commenters to weigh in on their next supercut project. After replacing the sound of Wolverine’s claws with slide whistles, they will now put their editing skills towards a new and nicer venture. “Please submit your favorite film flattery,” they ask, going on to note the scripted praise need not only come from lovers, but can be between friends, family, heck, even towards animals. (“That’ll do pig, that’ll do” from Babe better make the list.)
There’s no guarantee that Filmdrunk’s list will lean towards the purely heart-warming. As the site is rather tongue and cheek, some of the flatteries will most likely be crude or even rude. But then love’s a crazy thing and one person’s insult is another person’s Hallmark card.
Based on our Googling, no one has attempted this kind of supercut before, though there are some favourite compliments that crop up. The top hit is from As Good as It Gets: “You make me want to be a better man.”
