Though it wasn’t one of our picks for the most highly anticipated films of 2013, Anchorman 2 is still a contender. It’s been almost a decade since Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) graced the big screen with his moustache, so it’s understandable that fans are chomping at the bit to see what the Channel 4 News Team will get up to next. In the latest trailer we get a taste of what to expect, which involves a funeral, a road trip, and Ron being Ron.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues picks up in the 1980s, and so far this decade hasn’t been kind to old Ron. After losing his job in San Diego to his wife (Christina Applegate reprises the role), he decides to strike out in a new direction with the help of his old team, Brick (Steve Carell), Brian (Paul Rudd), and Champ (David Koechner). Heading to New York, the gang tries to break into the rapidly changing media game, but are faced with younger competition and unexpected challenges like feminism and gay rights.
In addition to the excitement over the original cast returning, much has been made about the sequel’s crazy cameos: Kanye, Harrison Ford, Tina Fey, Drake, Liam Neeson, the list goes on. The trailer doesn’t show any of these familiar faces (though Kristen Wiig makes a brief appearance, aggressively tossing a can of soda), so we’ll have to wait until December to see how those celebs are worked into the plot. As for the humour, a few jokes feel like they’re missing the mark, but we’re still intrigued.
