As the holidays wind down, most people will face a dreaded question: “How was your New Year’s Eve?” It’s hard to answer, as you don’t want to brag about what an insane time you had, lest you come off a hard partyer. (There might be some workplaces where that’s cool, but generally speaking, keeping quiet about your weekend escapades around your boss is a good idea.) On the other hand, you don’t want to be taken for a Debbie Downer and just shrug it off, lamely mumbling something about a midnight toast. Luckily, you can now deflect this query thanks to best friends Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart.
The pair, who star as nemeses Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, aren’t shy about documenting their beautiful friendship on social media. In fact, the two loveable stars have generated no shortage of selfies in their Waiting for Godot bowler caps this year, like this one when they visited Santa. Basically, they’re the best and aren’t afraid to show it. And because they’re the best, they naturally had the best New Year’s Eve, which they perfectly captured on Instagram.
In the short video, the two are bobbing and swaying together in unadulterated joy, blowing noisemakers, as someone sings “Auld Lang Syne” in the background. We can’t be sure, but there’s a good chance that voice belongs to Stewart’s wife, jazz singer Sunny Ozell. The pair are clearly having a good time. So, if a co-worker pesters you about the most overrated night of the year, just point them to this video. “My night was fine, thanks,” you might say. “But there’s no way it was better than the one Magneto and Professor X had!”
