Remember when Justin Timberlake played Sean Parker in The Social Network and you were like, ‘Damn! Computer nerds are cute!’? Well, the real Sean Parker, co-founder of Napster and erstwhile Facebook president, may not be as handsome as J.T., but he sure knows how to throw a party. Last June, Parker and his bride Alexandra Lenas tied the knot in a multi-million dollar wedding celebration, the theme of which was Lord of the Rings meets Game of Thrones. Timberlake wasn’t invited, but Sting and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich were.
The fact that Parker’s blonde bride looks a lot like Daenerys Targaryen (aka Khaleesi!) might have been the inspiration behind choosing a theme for the wedding. Vanity Fair reports that Parker even screened the ‘Red Wedding’ episode of Game of Thrones for his guests (I’m guessing that the computer whiz has a dark sense of humour). But the Lord of Rings vibe dominated the event—perhaps because Parker hired director Peter Jackson’s costume designer Ngila Dickson to create Middle Earth-esque outfits for all 364 of his guests to wear to the celebration.
Speaking of guests, there were some pretty big names on Parker’s list of invitees including Kyle MacLachlan, Girls star Allison Williams, musician Sean Lennon, and Iron Man 2 actress Olivia Munn, whose date was a small white rabbit.
The whole thing took place in a beautiful, old growth forest in Big Sur, California, in which Gandalf, Frodo, and the rest of their friends would have felt right at home (the fact that Parker didn’t have the proper permits to hold the wedding on the environmentally sensitive grounds has caused a bit of controversy). Vanity Fair has a tonne of photos from the event—you can check them out here. What do you think, will giant, fur pelt draped beds become the next big wedding trend?
