Bruce Springsteen may be one of the biggest music icons in the world, but the one time all-American poster-boy has proven that he is still your every day common man. At least when he is in the UK. At his recent show in Leeds, the Boss and his crew were all slapped with parking tickets at the venue he was playing at.
Springsteen was locked in to perform the very first show at the brand spanking new Leeds Arena last Wednesday had all of his buses and rigging vans charged with parking tickets. Apparently a stickler parking attendant at the new arena didn’t care who the artist and crew was that was playing at the venue and nailed all of the Springsteen touring vehicles with parking violations. Since the vehicles weren’t moved throughout the day and night, the charges kept increasing. Pretty embarrassing, it’s The Boss dammit!
A rep for the new Leeds Arena has spoken out about the incident to make nice with the Springsteen camp, and says that the parking tickets have been officially waved.
“We accept this is a little embarrassing but the attendant was doing his job—if a little too efficiently. These were somewhat unusual circumstances with a very large tour involving a tight turnaround of vehicles arriving from the previous night’s show in Cardiff on the opening night of a brand new venue. Having considered the special circumstances, the tickets were quickly cancelled. When you prepare a city to open and host a huge, state-of-the-art new venue, you’re bound to get the odd teething trouble.”
See, Bruce is still kinda like you and me.
