Spring has officially sprung, and now Jerry Springer is springing on Investigation Discovery.
According to a network press release, Springer, of trashy daytime talker the Jerry Springer Show, inked a deal to headline their entertainment news show Tabloid. The one-hour program, set to debut in 2014, “peels back the curtain to probe the most bizarre larger-than-life stories you can’t possibly imagine.”
Sounds right up Jerry’s alley, right? Investigation Discovery president and general manager Henry Schleiff certainly thinks so too.
“There really was no other choice for this series other than the king of daytime talk himself, Jerry Springer, to complement ID’s incredible stories of revenge, betrayal and real-life drama,” Schleiff said in a statement.
He continued, “We are thrilled to welcome him to the ID family, and excited to have him guide our viewers through the twisted turns behind the eye-catching headlines.”
Springer seems excited to be involved in the newbie series, which he will host in addition to his talk show, which is currently airing its 22nd season.
“The thing I like best about television is the opportunity to tell …stories that cover the entire range of human experiences and emotions,” Springer stated. “Tabloid gives me another chance to do just that.”
The man that inspires audiences to yell “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!” has been all over the tube in the past few years. In addition to Jerry Springer, he also hosted popular, Girls-referenced game show Baggage (three suitors to reveal three pieces of emotional “baggage” to a prospective suitor) from 2010 to 2012. Plus, he had a stint on Dancing With the Stars and serves as an executive producer on The Steve Wilkos Show.
