Shae Bradley might have said Buckwild isn’t like Jersey Shore, but it looks as though one star from the new MTV show is following in the footsteps of Snooki and Co. by getting arrested.
Salwa Amin, who co-stars in MTV’s latest reality offering, was picked up by police near Charleston, W.VA, on Sunday during a drug raid. According to E! News, authorities were informed that a car carrying a shipment of narcotics was making its way to a Nicholas County home.
Authorities obtained a search warrant and found Amin, 24, and two men (Shawn Booker and the house’s owner, Jason Jones) in a shed. Amin had what E! describes as a “large quantity of Oxycodone in her purse.” They also found a large sum of money on Booker and three bags of heroin in the shed.
According to multiple reports, the reality star was arraigned “on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.” As of Monday, the trio remained at the Central Regional Jail on $200,000 bond. MTV has yet to comment on the situation.
Buckwild, which focuses on a group of young West Virginians who love to party, wrapped up its first season last Thursday with back-to-back episodes. The reality series has proven to be a steady hit for MTV; the show’s series premiere beat Jersey Shore’s debut in the ratings by more than a million viewers. It’s managed to maintain an audience of approximately three million total viewers per episode; an impressive figure for a cable show.
With those numbers, it’s no surprise that MTV renewed the show for a second season. Despite Buckwild’s success, much like Jersey Shore it has attracted criticism and controversy (mainly because of its portrayal of West Virginians). Sen. Joe Manchin, of West Virginia, even wrote MTV a letter, asking the network to pull the plug on the series.
