ABC will announce the new Dancing with the Stars cast later this month, but as per usual that hasn’t stopped people from speculating who’s joining the reality series for its 16th season. The latest rumour is that June Shannon (A.K.A. Mama June from TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo) is being courted to join the long-running show.
Although the casting would come at an opportune time for Shannon (she recently lost 100 pounds) the rumour appears to be false. According to The Huffington Post, a rep for TLC has stated the story is just “an untrue rumour.” Meanwhile, an ABC insider revealed to The New York Daily News a few names that the network is interested in featuring on the celebrity dancing show. That list allegedly includes boxer Victor Ortiz, Bachelorette alum Emily Maynard and reality star Kourtney Kardashian.
These are still just rumours, but they’re actually not so far-fetched if you think about it. ABC has signed tons of athletes throughout the years – it’s almost become a standard for every season to feature at least one sports star. Past athletic competitors include boxer Evander Holyfield (Season 1), NFL player Jerry Rice (Season 2) and basketball player Clyde Drexler (Season 4). It’s safe to say Ortiz, 26, would fit right in.
Similarly, Dancing with the Stars has already featured a trio of Bachelor and Bachelorette stars: Trista Sutter, Melissa Rycroft – who won last year’s All-Stars edition – and Jake Pavelka. Since the Bachelor franchise airs on ABC, it probably isn’t too much of a hassle for the network to enlist alums like Maynard to appear.
And it wouldn’t be a surprise if ABC was in fact interested in enlisting Kourtney Kardashian. It’s no secret that the Kardashian clan delivers solid ratings for E!, so it makes sense for ABC to want a piece of the pie. In fact, DWTS has already featured a Kardashian (Rob) in Season 13. We’ll find out whether these rumours are true when the names of the 12 new DWTS contestants are announced on Tuesday, Feb. 26 on Good Morning America.
