Could there be a happy ending in store for Happy Endings after all? ABC certainly hopes so.
The network has made their love for the critically-acclaimed, only decently-rated sitcom in a new promo. In the clip, seen below, they urge fans to “Save Happy Endings” by making sure to tune in when the show takes on its new Friday night timeslot on March 29.
“The comedy that everyone raves about is back … with a whole new hour,” the overzealous narrator yelps, while winning soundbites from TVGuide.com, NPR and The Huffington Post scroll across the screen.
The whole thing seems surprisingly positive, given the network’s treatment of the show. Happy Endings has always gotten the short end of the stick in terms of scheduling. While it was sitting pretty in a plum, Tuesday night timeslot for about a season, it got moved to Sundays for a short while this year, following the cancellation of former partner Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23. Then ABC announced that they would burn off the rest of Season 3 on Fridays, doubling up on episodes until further notice.
If ABC really wants to save Happy Endings, they ought to move it back to a more viewer-populated night, preferably Tuesday or Wednesday. Considering that The Neighbors airs its season finale next week, now would be the perfect time to make it a Modern Family lead-in.
Unless, of course, ABC is a believer in “If you love something, let it go.” In which case, certain TV Guide-rs will have to hibernate, Honeybear Max style, for an entire TV season.
