One of the biggest pop groups of the ’90s, the all-girl, inspirational Spice Girls, may be back … again. That’s right, if rumours are true and member Geri Halliwell gets her way, then Ginger Spice (Halliwell), Scary Spice (Melanie Brown), Sporty Spice (Melanie Chisholm), Baby Spice (Emma Bunton) and Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) will all be back rocking our “Spice World.” Well, all except Beckham, that is.
Beckham, who is currently married to Mr. Posh, a.k.a. David Beckham, has allegedly no plans to reunite with her four gal pals on stage, according to Britain’s Sunday People. But will the fashion designer’s walking away maim tour plans? It doesn’t look like it.
The girl power advocates reportedly want to find a replacement for Beckham and wish to do so via a reality series, which may be appropriately titled Wannabe Spice, after the group’s breakout hit, “Wannabe.” Halliwell is supposedly adamant about ensuring the tour happens.
A source told Sunday People, “[Halliwell] would give anything for this all to work out. She has spoken to TV production companies about how it would work and has got very excited. Things are gradually getting further down the line.”
However, it’s not clear if the show will actually be produced. Another source close to the quintet told the Daily Mail that, should the girls decide to carry on without Beckham, they would not recruit a new member.
Chisholm recently took to Twitter, denying reports about a reality series. Sporty Spice tweeted, “It seems there are some very peculiar stories in the press today. I haven’t seen one that’s true yet!” Hmm … is she telling the truth or trying to throw us off? What to believe, what to believe?
Although this particular writer would be très excited for another Spice Girls tour, it would not be the same without the original Posh. Will the new girl take on the same attitude as Beckham? Will the new girl even be Posh 2.0, or will she have a totally different nickname and persona? Maybe they’ll just stick to the show’s name and call her Wannabe Spice.
All I know is, if a reality series is made to hunt for the next Spice Girl, it will definitely be entertaining. Just think of all the different kinds of clothes and shoes! And you just know the Wannabes will be put through some interesting situations. If you’re gonna be a Spice Girl, you’ve gotta be well-prepared for anything and everything, including possible alien encounters (remember the 1997 movie Spice World?)!
Anyway, if the rumours about a reality TV show are true, one lucky lady will have a pair of very expensive and fashionable shoes to fill.
