Yuuuuuup! Another Canadian network has greenlit a spinoff of a popular American series. This time it’s OLN, which has ordered 36 half-hour episodes of Storage Wars Canada.
“The hit Storage Wars franchise is perfectly in tune with the outrageous characters and real-life stories that OLN’s viewers look forward to every night,” Claire Freeland, director of original programming for Rogers Media and executive producer of Storage Wars Canada, said in a press release. “Canada is filled with dynamic treasure hunters and passionate collectors that will bring this homegrown series to life, and we are excited to give Canadians this opportunity.”
The Canadian version will feature four professional buyers and their teams bidding for the contents of abandoned, repossessed or forgotten storage containers. Filming is set to take place around Ontario; production, casting and broadcast details have yet to be announced.
Anyone interested in participating as treasure hunters, auctioneers and appraisers can forward a resumé, photo and brief description of themselves to email@example.com.
“They need to have energy and think outside the box,” original Storage Wars auctioneer Dan Dotson told TV Guide Canada. He and wife Laura were in Toronto to celebrate the launch of the Canadian spinoff. “Someone that can talk about their mental process and not be afraid of or be intimidated by anyone. Those are the folks that will be the most successful and the most sought-after by (the casting team).”
Storage Wars Canada is produced by Proper Television, the folks behind Canada’s Worst Driver, Canada’s Worst Handyman, Redemption Inc. and Come Dine with Me Canada. Storage Wars Canada is the latest home-grown version of such popular U.S. series as The Bachelor, Big Brother and The Amazing Race.
