What could be better than rewatching Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess’s (Zooey Dechanel) steamy first kiss on New Girl? How about rewatching it to the autotune of Jess yelling, “I’m not a gold digger”?
That is the gift Fox is giving New-bies today, as they have released a soon-to-be-viral video called “Auto-Tune the New Girl,” which does … pretty much exactly what the title says it does.
Although all of New Girl’s main characters are featured in the hilarious clip show (Cece’s “WHAAAAAAAAT?” to Schmidt’s tiger fish obsession is highlight), the focus is really on Nick and Jess and their all-over-the-place more-than-friendship, which recently went to the next level. In addition to revisiting the “gold digger” line from “Quick Hardening Caulk,” we get to listen to Jess robotically sing “He was a man and I was a womaaaaaaan!” and “I want him. I want him baddddddd!” while the accompanying clips play on loop in the background.
The best part of the video might be the repeated use of “I do it for Kenya!”, a line that was originally said by Jess as she pretended to be an Olympic runner during a solo night at the loft. In this case, however, the line is used as the pitch-perfect response to Nick’s “Why are you running away?”
I ain’t saying Jess is a golddigger, but girl is definitely autotune gold.
The New Girl finale airs Tuesday, May 14 at 9 p.m. ET on City/Fox.
