Turns out American Idol wasn’t really a “Moment 4 Life” for current judge Nicki Minaj. After numerous rumours and reports, the self-proclaimed “Champion” has confirmed she is indeed leaving the singing reality show.
Or at least, that’s the good word from Us Weekly. The publication quotes an unnamed source as saying it is “safe to say” Minaj won’t return to the series next winter because she is focusing on another album, touring and endorsements.
“She’s OK with it,” the insiders says. “She had a great time but was only going to do one season anyway.”
The 30-year-old’s exit follows the news that the show’s last remaining original judge, Randy Jackson, was leaving after 12 seasons. The rumour from Fox that same week was that the network was looking to axe all four judging personalities heading into Season 13.
“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” Jackson told Us Weekly in a statement.”
Despite the rumours and back-and-forth, Keith Urban at least would be open to returning for Season 13. The country crooner told E! News after Wednesday’s final performance show that he would actually love to come back next year.
“I would come back,” he told the publication. “I loved the whole adventure and journey and watching these guys go from these towns that we found them in to the final stage … I love [being a mentor]. I see lots of things in them, habits I had or things I had to break through. They’re often just tiny things. It’s like puppy fat, you just have to shed that and there it is!!”
American Idol crowns its Season 12 winner on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two and Fox.
