Reunited, and it feels so good. Peaches & Herb’s hit was our immediate reaction to the news former Seinfeld actors Jason Alexander and Michael Richards will share airtime this year.
Alexander is dropping by the set of Kirstie Alley’s new self-titled TV Land sitcom Kirstie later this month — where Richards is a co-star — for a guest gig.
“It is a strange and wonderful thing to be working on a brand-new show yet surrounded by familiar faces and friends,” Alexander said in a press release issued by TV Land on Thursday. “I’m looking forward to a fun and fabulous time.”
Kirstie stars Alley as Broadway actress Madison Banks, whose life is turned upside-down when the dim-witted son, Arlo (Eric Petersen, Jessie), she gave up for adoption pops back into her life. Other characters in Maddie’s life include her assistant, Thelma (played by Rhea Perlman, making this a Cheers reunion of sorts, too) and her nutty driver, Frank (Richards).
Alexander portrays Maddie’s agent in at last one episode. The New Jersey native’s last television role was earlier this year, when he played “Mountain Man” in an episode of Community. Aside from that, the star has been busy doing the directing thing — he oversaw episodes of Mike & Molly and Franklin & Bash in 2012.
Kirstie, previously-known as Giant Baby, is written and executive-produced by Alley, Jason Weinberg (Enlightened) and Marco Pennette (Desperate Housewives).
Canadian broadcaster CTV plans to debut Kirstie at midseason.
The last time the entire Seinfeld gang appeared on the small screen together was on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009. Richards, Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jerry Seinfeld appeared as themselves alongside the NBC sitcom’s old writer and executive producer, Larry David.
