June Shannon shouldn’t be behind the wheel of the above bumper car. Or any vehicle, for that matter.
Turns out the star of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, a.k.a. “Mama June,” is legally blind due to childhood cataracts that weren’t properly taken care of.
“She can’t have surgery because they believe it could do more harm than good,” a TLC spokesperson told The Daily Mail. “The damage is that bad.”
“I’m not going to lie to you, my eyesight was a little blurry,” Shannon told the show’s cameras during a recent episode where she careened her way around a go-kart track with her family. She, thankfully, doesn’t have a driver’s license.
Shannon is the mother to Alana (“Honey Boo Boo”), Lauryn (“Pumpkin”), Jessica (“Chubbs”) and Anna (“Chickadee”) and wife to Mike (“Sugar Bear”).
Meanwhile, Shannon has confirmed to media outlets that Honey Boo Boo has ended the beauty pageant career that made her a television superstar.
“We haven’t done a pageant for awhile, because we’re so busy with our show and school and life in general,” she revealed to In Touch. “Alana’s trying different things, but I don’t think she’s found that new niche yet that she wants to get into.”
The family shot to fame after being featured in TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras and scored their own spinoff, which debuted in 2012.
Season 2 returned on July 17, featuring a Watch n’ Sniff component where viewers sniffed one of six scented cards — randomly distributed to U.S. viewers — while watching the episode.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
