As the beauty world grows, the latest products are becoming even cooler. Scientists behind major beauty brands have been hard at work to bring you the cream of the crop in innovation. We’ve seen shades become cult products that everyone just has to get their hands on – take OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques a couple of years ago. Everyone was wearing that muddy-grey shade on their nails – including myself. The Clarisonic set the bar in tech beauty, making every woman from 18 to 80 want to have the device in their medicine cabinet and I don’t blame them.

As beauty evolves, the product offering is only going to grow. I’ve picked some items that I know are going to be big.

The beauty products that are all the rage for 2013

Lip plumping oils

Many lip plumping products are in the form of balms or glosses, so this newbie grabbed my attention when I heard it was oil based. Intrigued? In true Bite style, the Cinnamon Lip Plumping Oil is 99% natural and works to hydrate, plump and shine your lips in one swipe. The cinnamon delivers a heated effect when you apply it, which will flush the lips with natural colour while their signature ingredient, Resveratrol, works to smooth out your fine lines offering long lasting anti-aging effects. This is a product that the beauty world has been itching to try and it’s finally in stores for the rest of us to get our hands on.

Primer for your hair
After announcing Jennifer Anniston as their spokesperson, Living Proof’s name shot up in fame, and rightly so – their spokesperson has perfect hair. Because of my frizzy, curly mane, the brand was a part of my beauty routine already. The MIT-founded beauty company has the science behind it to make it worth every penny. The new Style Extender is their first hair primer that preps your strands for styling and makes it last twice – kind of like a primer for your foundation. It also works to correct cuticle texture, de-tangle and is so light that you can wear it with other products – a major win if you can’t let go of your shine serums. If you suffer from super reactive hair, this is going to be the answer to those much needed, good hair days.

Luminous foundation compacts

The age of the compact is back. Over the holidays, Estee Lauder released mini star sign palettes of gold that were so gorgeous you’d want to buy more, even if you weren’t a Leo or Capricorn. It seems that over the last few months, everyone’s releasing foundations in compact form. What better way to touch up and cover-up those surprise pimples throughout the day. Though the pressed powder still prevails, the newest trend is focusing on luminous foundation compacts.

Chanel already has their Teint Innocence Luminous foundation in a compact and Bobbi Brown is set to release their Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation in compact form next month. The sleek black packaging will have you pulling it out in between your subway stops for a quick check and touch up.

Lighting effect powders
This product blew. Me. Away. Apart from being a super clever idea, Hourglass cosmetics’ newly launched line of Ambient Lighting Powders are a treat and then some. The silky, finishing powders are available in six different forms of lighting. This state-of-the-art technology mimics the way your skin catches light in different scenarios. From ‘luminous light’ to ‘dim light’ it really is hard to pick one because all of them give a variation of some sort of natural, healthy glow. The price tag is steep but they’re addictive – once you see the effect of one on, you’ll want to have them all.
