If you’re a beauty buff like me, you’ve probably tried at least one of these four trends. But believe it or not, you’re repelling men without even knowing it. Read on to learn the top beauty trends that I’ve discovered men simply cannot stand.
Ombre lips are started to become all the rage in the beauty world, but to guys, it just doesn’t make sense. “Oh, you didn’t blend your lipstick in,” he says. Gee, thanks, boyfriend – I didn’t noticed the blinding difference between my red and orange lips. This trend might totally make sense to your girlfriends, but to the guys that haven’t read the latest issue of Allure magazine, they’re left in the dark. Depending on where you work, save your trend-setting looks for your work week (if it’s a cool, laid back environment) or your Sunday brunch with the girls.
As much as we like to layer on the mascara (guilty as charged), it can sometimes turn guys off. Believe it or not, most men I talked to know what “spider-lashes” are. While volume and length can look gorgeous, you should avoid letting the mascara dry a little too much in between layers. Coat your first set of lashes, then go straight back to the first set to layer a little more. This will give you the length and volume you need as opposed to the thick, clumpy lashes you may sometimes be sporting.
Okay, this one hurt, but it turns out men are afraid of that bright lip you’re rocking to be on trend. It kind of make sense when you think about because every time you lean in for a smooch, they’re preparing for the onslaught of lipstick thats about to cover their face. Yikes! Save this look for your girly, shopping trips and not date night – instead opt for a pink or peach shade that’ll make your lips look kissable as opposed to unapproachable.
A smokey-eye red-carpet style is always a sexy and sultry beauty look, but it’s easy to overdo it when you’re handling that pan of deep and dark shades. Before you know it your eyes could be covered in thick, black, charcoal-like shadow. To you it may look smouldering, to them – it’s kinda scary! If you’re heading out on a date, try more neutral shades that will define your eye shape but not seem overwhelming. Dark brown and beige will work wonders, and if you really can’t let go of black, try a black liner.
