Oprah Winfrey attended the 6th annual Essence black women In Hollywood luncheon last week. The event honours women who have accomplished great achievements. The honourees this year included Gabrielle Union, Quvenzhané Wallis and of course, Winfrey.
Winfrey was the last honouree to speak at the luncheon, and in true form, she delivered a profound and touching speech.
She told her fellow attendees that she grew up reading Essense magazine. She went on to say that throughout her long career of interviewing people, people kept asking her one thing.
“Was that okay?” people being interviewed would ask Winfrey. “We’re all looking to know that we are seen, we are heard, and what we say means something…everybody wants to know that they matter. And you can just dissolve any argument the moment the person recognizes that they are being heard, they are being seen, and what they say matters. This award means something special to me and it matters…because when Essence says it, I believe it is true.”
Oh Oprah – you just always know what to say!
Pretty in peplum
The 59-year-old arrived at the event in a white peplum blouse and black pencil skirt. She paired the outfit with black high heels and gorgeous hoop earrings. And although her hair turned a lot of heads, I like it. It’s fun and carefree.
