Sometimes it’s tough to design a room for tweens and teens. Although it’s important to respect their design choices, you know their taste will change in a few years, so try to gently courage them towards a more traditional approach. Last year, I designed a house and made the teen’s room in this fun theme that I am sharing with you today: ski lodge whimsy.
Although going with this theme required the appropriate house location (you can’t have this in a beach side home!), I think in most parts of Canada, this would fit perfectly. So, let’s get started! Here’s how to get the look:
Vintage: I LOVE antiques and I believe every room should have at least one! In this case, a great thing to look for in your next antique hunt is vintage sporting equipment. Having a feature item helps greatly in to guiding the design.
Wood: It’s a big player in this design. If you don’t incorporate wood, you just wont get the look. On the furniture, or on the walls, it has to go somewhere that will make an impact – the more “worn” the better.
Rustic Finishes: Apart from rustic wood, try to add more! Think about items like a rusted metal framed mirror or rusted antique metal sign on the walls.
Bright Colours: The wood and rustic aspects are expected, this is where it turns fun, young and hip! This you can incorporate colour in the bedding, a feature wall with wallpaper or an Ottoman.
Shiny white: Adding a surprise shine will make the space modern and more adequate – especially is you’re decorating for a youngster.
