Remember the days of trading meticulously detailed, multi-coloured, embroidery thread woven friendship bracelets with your pals? If you’ve been feeling nostalgic and yearn for the simpler days of childhood, these bracelets will remind your now grown-up friends how much you love them. They’ll also suit your grown-up wardrobe a little better, too, since the threads have been upgraded with ladylike crystal, gold elements, and pretty beads.

What is it:

Friendship Bracelet from J. Crew,

Why I love it:

I remember sitting in front of the TV as a tween watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and knotting colourful thread (pinned to my jeans) to make bracelets for my friends. Making the bracelets was even more fun than wearing them sometimes, but there’s definitely a shortage of bracelet-knotting time now that work and other obligations have cut into my Buffy watching. However, the charm of the bracelets is not lost and walking through a J. Crew store the other day I saw these and adored them.

The new version of an old classic is far fancier than the schoolyard version, and I love how these ones have sparkly crystals and gold metal accents making them a bit more age-appropriate without losing their charm. You could wear this bracelet with jeans and a plain T-shirt a-la-elementary school, or pair them with a sweater-dress to add sparkle to your workday attire. One way or the other, my childhood best friend should expect one in the mail any day now. I’m just hoping it’ll arrive before she reads this!

Where to buy it:

$35.50 at J. Crew
