Philipp Plein sent his models down the Milan fashion week runway brandishing assault rifles, machine guns, gas masks and balaclavas. The men were also covered in slogans that read “only kill for real love,” and “life’s a game and it’s not fair.”
Is it a political statement? Is he trying to weigh in on the gun control debate in the United States? Or is the German designer just riding on the coattails of a horrific tragedy that claimed the lives of innocent children.
Regardless of his motivations, the show is offensive and very ill-timed especially given the controversy just recently stirred up by Lady Gaga after she wore a ‘gun bra’ during a performance in Vancouver. But being offensive is what Plein likes to do. Just last year he cast Lindsay Lohan in one of his campaigns. I’m kidding, that’s not really offensive, but casting twin brothers and showcasing them making out in your ad is.
